What We Do

Today's responders face an unprecedented evolution in emergency response. Lithium-ion batteries, electric vehicles, photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, and rapidly expanding renewable energy infrastructure are changing how fires behave and how firefighters must prepare to respond.

The Challenge

The global transition toward cleaner energy is accelerating. Communities everywhere are embracing electric transportation, renewable power generation, and advanced energy storage technologies.
While these innovations create tremendous opportunities, they also introduce complex emergency response challenges unlike those encountered in traditional fire environments.
Thermal runaway events, high-voltage electrical systems, evolving construction methods, and increasingly sophisticated battery technologies require specialized education that extends beyond conventional firefighter training.
The Foundation exists to close this knowledge gap by bringing together experienced fire service professionals, educators, researchers, and industry leaders to develop practical, evidence-based training that prepares firefighters for the realities of today's evolving hazards.

The Foundation was established through the vision of Specialty Fire Solutions as a commitment to firefighter safety and operational excellence.
They recognized that emerging energy technologies require more than innovative equipment – they require accessible education, ongoing research, and practical training that empowers firefighters to respond with confidence.
What was created was an independent nonprofit dedicated to strengthening emergency preparedness through knowledge, collaboration, and service.

First responders service training is the Foundation's cornerstone. We deliver practical, firefighter-led education that prepares departments to safely respond to lithium-ion batteries, electric vehicles, energy storage systems, thermal runaway, and other emerging hazards through classroom, hands-on, live-fire, and digital training.

The Foundation helps agencies identify funding opportunities, understand grant requirements, and pursue federal, state, and private funding that supports firefighter safety, training, equipment, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
